Art Overview
Curriculum

Term 1: Skills & Workshops

Students will be introduced to a variety of media in Art Craft & Design. They will get some freedom on subject matter, however lessons at the start of the course will be teacher led workshops, trying out a broad range of media and learning new drawing techniques to push their skills further. Some additional workshops this term will include Oil and Acrylic Painting. e will explore artists such as Grayson Perry, Wassily Kandinsky & Alexander Calder.

Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes.

Term 2: Skills & Workshops - Continued

Students will continue to experiment with a variety of 2D and 3D media such as wire sculpture, clay & textiles. Students will gain more freedom on artists to research and start to research Artists, themes and ideas for their next project.

Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes. Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Term 3: Individual Project

In this mini project, students will research artists, develop ideas, experiment and refine their work. Students will continue to be assessed under the four A Level Art assessment objectives. This project is designed to help students make more personal decisions about their work and will help inform their Personal Investigation which starts in Term 4.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.

Cultural and various backgrounds considered and analysed throughout the project - looking at a variety of influences and styles which hopefully will inspire their work and design decisions.

Term 4: Individual Project - Continued

To conclude their individual projects, students will complete a personal final piece. They can do this in a choice of media but will work to their strengths identified since the start of the course. Students will aim to spend 15 hours on the final piece. Some of this time will be spent in mock exam conditions in preparation for the practical Art exam at the end of Year 13. Students will be assessed on the entire project using the four assessment objectives. Students can produce practice pieces for final pieces and should be creative and experimental in their approach. Students will continue to be assessed under the four A Level Art assessment objectives.

Through the individual approach to the areas and ideas explored, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of topics linking to society, culture, consumerism, the environment, what makes us human and what makes them who they are.

Students learn to discuss, share and express their ideas and opinions in considered and respectful ways. Student gain a deeper understanding of the world and people around them.

Term 5: Term 5: Personal Investigation

Through the choice of themes, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of areas and make a personal decision about which are of study they would like to make artwork about. Students are encouraged to explore ideas and concepts of interest to them. They will discuss and share ideas; thus gaining a greater understanding of themselves as well as the people and the world around them. Students will be introduced to the Personal Study, an essay that is graded alongside the Sketchbook and final outcome for Component 1.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.

Term 6: Term 6: Personal Investigation - Continued

Through the choice of themes, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of areas and make a personal decision about which are of study they would like to make artwork about. Students are encouraged to explore ideas and concepts of interest to them.

They will discuss and share ideas; thus gaining a greater understanding of themselves as well as the people and the world around them.

During this term, they will design and create an outcome. This will be created in exam conditions for a duration of 15 hours.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.
