At Turing House School, our House System is at the heart of school life. Every student and member of staff belongs to one of our four Houses, creating a strong sense of identity, teamwork, and community from the moment they join us.
Representing your House goes beyond competitions, it’s about living our values every day. From wearing the correct uniform and supporting charitable causes to developing new skills and encouraging others, our House System helps students grow in confidence and character.
We offer a wide range of opportunities across academic, sporting, creative, musical, and leadership activities, ensuring every student can shine.
Students from all year groups work together in houses, creating a strong sense of community. This structure encourages older students to mentor younger peers, builds leadership skills, and promotes collaboration across ages. It also strengthens school spirit through shared activities and healthy competition, ensuring everyone feels part of something bigger.
Why Our House System Matters
Our House System is more than friendly competition—it’s about building character and community. It helps students:
- Develop respect, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Build confidence and positive self-esteem
- Access equal opportunities to showcase talents
- Prepare for life beyond school with essential skills
- Contribute to a school culture we can all be proud of
Above all, it fosters a sense of belonging and pride that lasts well beyond the school gates.
Each house is named after an extraordinary individual who embodies excellence, perseverance, and leadership in their field.
Meet Our House Representatives:

- Lovelace House – led by the pioneering computer scientist Ada Lovelace
- May House – inspired by legendary musician and astrophysicist Brian May
- Attenborough House – championing the natural world through the voice of Sir David Attenborough
- Ennis-Hill House – fueled by the determination and drive of Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill
These remarkable figures have been chosen not only for their achievements but also for the inspiration they provide to young people across the world. Throughout the year, each house will participate in exciting challenges, competitions, and community events, with students working together, earning points, and building friendships across year groups.
House Captains
There is an application process to become a House Captain. The House Captains participate in organising, promoting and running events. House Captains have regular meetings, give information and announcements and work with teachers and students to ensure that the essence of all the houses is a prominent feature in the school community. The House Captains and Ambassadors will wear a shield in their house colour with their given role. This will allow them to be easily reccognised by students who want to talk to them about the house system.
House Colours
When students start at Turing House School, they will be assigned to a house and as such will be required to use a Turing House School bag. These will all be numbered and the number will be displayed in their house colour.
What Do The Houses Do?
Our Houses are a vital part of life at Turing House School, shaping the way students learn, lead, and connect with one another. They provide a focus for school life across academic, social, sporting, and leadership activities, giving every student the chance to contribute and shine.
Regular House Assemblies keep everyone informed and motivated. These sessions celebrate achievements, share upcoming events, update scores, and recognise outstanding contributions—helping to build pride and a sense of belonging within each House.
House Symbols, Mottos, and Theme Tunes
Creativity is at the heart of our House identity at Turing House School. Each House has its own crest and motto, designed and chosen by our students to reflect the qualities of their inspirational figure. These mottos capture the essence of what each House stands for—whether it’s innovation, resilience, or leadership.
To make our Houses even more distinctive, students have also selected a theme tune that represents their House spirit. For example, May House proudly celebrates its connection to Brian May with a classic Queen anthem, bringing energy and unity to House events.
These symbols, mottos, and theme tunes are more than just decorations—they are a source of pride and identity, reminding students of the values and achievements that inspire them every day.

Competitions and Points
Throughout the year, Houses compete in a variety of challenges—from quizzes and spelling bees to sports tournaments and creative contests. Every achievement earns House Points, tracked on Bromcom, with deductions for negative behaviour. The excitement builds towards Sports Day, where the final points are tallied and the winning House claims the House Cup.
The House Cup – Our Ultimate Prize
Every year, the four Houses at Turing House School compete for the ultimate accolade: The House Cup. This prestigious award goes to the House that demonstrates outstanding commitment, teamwork, and achievement throughout the year. Points are earned through a wide range of activities, academic challenges, sporting events, creative competitions, and contributions to school life.
Winning the House Cup isn’t just about success in competitions; it’s about embodying the values of our school and working together to make a positive impact.
Developing Leadership Through Houses
Our House System is designed to nurture future leaders. By taking on roles such as House Captain or working within House Teams, students gain valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, organisation, and communication. These opportunities help them develop practical skills in planning events, managing groups, and problem-solving, which are essential for success both in school and beyond.
