Student leadership at Turing House School is
vital because it embodies and promotes the core values that define the school community: perseverance,
leadership, modesty, curiosity, and creativity. Through leadership roles, students learn to persevere in the
face of challenges, developing resilience and a strong work ethic. They model positive behavior and inspire
their peers, demonstrating what it means to lead with integrity and purpose. Modesty ensures that student
leaders remain grounded, valuing teamwork and recognizing the contributions of others. Curiosity drives them
to seek new ideas and solutions, while creativity empowers them to think innovatively and make meaningful
changes within the school. Together, these values help cultivate confident, compassionate, and capable
individuals who are prepared to make a positive impact both within and beyond Turing House.
The Leadership program is structured so that it provides multiple opportunities
throughout the Key Stages, progressing with their responsibility and the steps involved in the application
processes. The opportunities for Leadership are shown below:

Tutor
Roles

Each tutor group from Y7-Y12 has a Tutor Captain, Vice Tutor Captain, and Student Council Representative. Students apply for these roles by putting their name forward and then making a small speech to their tutor group. The tutor group decides based on a vote who is elected.

Amazing Leaders

At the start of Year 7, students who are Pupil Premium (PP) are given the opportunity to be Amazing Leaders. This is the only leadership role in the school where students do not apply and are selected based on whether they are PP or not.

These students make visit to the local HomeLink group and support with school visitors
TfL Pioneer Ambassadors

In Year 8, students have an assembly on being a TfL Pioneer Ambassador. This role is for students who are passionate about transport to school, the environment, and recuing carbon emissions in the area.

Students apply by putting in an application of interest to Mr Evans

Over the Academic Year, students work together to promote active and safe ways to travel to school. This is done through assemblies, tutor time activities, podcasts, running Eco-Active week, and completing student surveys

Student Council

The School Council is comprised of one form representative from each tutor group and led by the Sixth Form Senior Prefects and Lead Students.

Elections for new school council representatives take place at the start of the academic year during tutor time.

The agenda will comprise of 3-4 questions to be discussed in the meetings. One of the questions will develop into a 'take away task' for the Student Council Reps to take back to their year groups to gather feedback. Their feedback will be discussed in the next meeting.

The Student Council meet once per half term to work through an agreed agenda created by the SLT link. Minutes are taken at each meeting and shared with SLT to action.

Year 11 Prefects & Y11
Ambassadors

Year 11 Prefects and Ambassadors are appointed in May of Year 10 by a process of application. This is to ensure that the Year 11 Prefects currently in post are given adequate time to focus on preparing for their GCSE exams.

Year 10 students apply to provide weekly support to a particular department, either during break/lunchtime or after school. Students may also be required to support at Open Evening events and interventions at tutor time.

This role allows students to demonstrate their maturity and leadership skills, as well as honing organisational and communication skills.

House Captains

House captain and deputies are roles reserved for Year 12 students going into Year 13. Students are appointed through an application (One A4 letter), interview with Mr Quigley. The process is launched in March of Year 12 to ensure those in the outgoing post have time to focus on their studies.

House captains and deputies who are elected will remain in this role for Term 4, 5, and 6 of Year 12 and Term 1,2,3 of Year 13.

These students should act as role models to younger students. They also oversee the Senior Prefects and School Council. Students will also organise and lead events across the whole school and staff. They will promote participation and foster teamwork.

Senior Prefects

Senior Prefects are roles reserved for Sixth Form students. Students are appointed through an application and interview process in March of Year 12. Senior prefects who are elected will remain in this role for Term 4, 5, and 6 of Year 12 and Term 1,2,3 of Year 13.

Senior Prefects are allocated to different year groups and work as mentors for their cohort of students. Senior Prefects work as a team to devise and run inter-year group support interventions and clubs, liaising with their Heads of Year to facilitate and support events.

The aim of this role is to bring an element of healthy competition, build a greater sense of community across tutor and year groups, support with mental health and wellbeing, and to create a real sense of fun!

Lead Student

Lead Students are roles reserved for Year 12 students going into Year 13. Students are appointed through an application (One A4 letter), interview with Mr Evans, hustings and final interview with Mr O’Sullivan. The process is launched in March of Year 12 to ensure those in the outgoing post have time to focus on their studies.

Lead Students are expected to represent the school at both public events and when visitors attend the school. They are responsible for overseeing whole school and year group interventions. These students should act as role models to younger students. They also oversee the Senior Prefects and School Council.
