The Turing Teaching Alliance
The Turing Teaching Alliance is a partnership of local secondary schools, led by Turing House School. We offer an excellent opportunity for members of our local community to train to teach, with a supportive, tailored experience delivered in collaboration with St Mary’s University.
We are proud to offer Lead Partner PGCE courses beginning in September 2026, which lead to both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Master’s-level credits. The Lead Partner route is a government initiative designed to place schools at the heart of Initial Teacher Education, ensuring that trainees are immersed in the realities of school life from the outset.
Why train with us?
All schools in our Alliance, including Turing House School, have extensive experience in teacher training and a strong track record of developing new teachers. Turing House is a high-performing, inclusive, and welcoming school, and we are proud to lead an Alliance where trainees are nurtured, challenged, and supported every step of the way. We value the energy, commitment, and fresh perspectives that aspiring teachers bring to our school communities and are passionate about helping them thrive in the profession.
We offer courses in the below areas:
- English
- Maths
- Science - Biology, Chemistry and Physics
- Spanish
- PE
- RE
- Geography
- History
Entry requirements:
To apply, candidates must:
- Hold an undergraduate degree from a UK university (or equivalent). A 2:1 classification is preferred, but strong candidates with a 2:2 and additional experience or qualifications will be considered.
- Have GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in English Language and Mathematics.
- For PE and Science subjects, a GCSE grade 4 (C) in Science is also required.
- Meet the physical and mental fitness requirements set by the Department for Education (see St Mary’s University website for details).
Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE):
If your degree is not in the subject you wish to teach, you may be eligible for a funded SKE course to boost your subject knowledge before starting your training.
International applicants:
If you studied outside the UK, visit UK ENIC (formerly NARIC) to check the equivalency of your qualifications.
School experience:
We highly recommend gaining experience by observing lessons in a UK secondary school. This will help you reflect on teaching and understand the role of a professional educator.
We are offering our next school experience morning on Wednesday 1st October. Please note that places are limited. Please click on the link and search for Turing House School to book. Please see below for some feedback we had about our School Experience day in July:
The day was a really valuable experience which gave me well-rounded insight into teaching. I felt welcomed and supported throughout the day - thank you so much!
It was great to speak to your staff and to see so many lessons today. It was fantastic to be able to work with the students a little also, they were very impressive, and I took a lot from that experience.
The experience helped me decide that teaching is the right path for me, and the Safeguarding discussion gave a real insight into the challenges students face.
100% of attendees strongly agreed that:
-
The day was well-organised and ran smoothly
-
They felt welcomed and supported throughout the day
-
The sessions were informative and relevant
-
They gained a better understanding of what a teaching career involves
- They enjoyed observing lessons and engaging with students and staff
-
The experience helped them decide whether teaching is the right path
- They would recommend the School Experience Day to others considering teaching
