The Turing Teaching Alliance

The Turing Teaching Alliance is a partnership of local secondary schools, led by Turing House School. We offer an excellent opportunity for members of our local community to train to teach, with a supportive, tailored experience delivered in collaboration with St Mary’s University.

We are proud to offer Lead Partner PGCE courses beginning in September 2026, which lead to both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Master’s-level credits. The Lead Partner route is a government initiative designed to place schools at the heart of Initial Teacher Education, ensuring that trainees are immersed in the realities of school life from the outset.

Why train with us?

All schools in our Alliance, including Turing House School, have extensive experience in teacher training and a strong track record of developing new teachers. Turing House is a high-performing, inclusive, and welcoming school, and we are proud to lead an Alliance where trainees are nurtured, challenged, and supported every step of the way. We value the energy, commitment, and fresh perspectives that aspiring teachers bring to our school communities and are passionate about helping them thrive in the profession.

We offer courses in the below areas:

  1. English
  2. Maths
  3. Science - Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  4. Spanish
  5. PE
  6. RE
  7. Geography
  8. History

Entry requirements:

To apply, candidates must:

  1. Hold an undergraduate degree from a UK university (or equivalent). A 2:1 classification is preferred, but strong candidates with a 2:2 and additional experience or qualifications will be considered.
  2. Have GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in English Language and Mathematics.
  3. For PE and Science subjects, a GCSE grade 4 (C) in Science is also required.
  4. Meet the physical and mental fitness requirements set by the Department for Education (see St Mary’s University website for details).

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE):

If your degree is not in the subject you wish to teach, you may be eligible for a funded SKE course to boost your subject knowledge before starting your training.

International applicants:

If you studied outside the UK, visit UK ENIC (formerly NARIC) to check the equivalency of your qualifications.

School experience:

We highly recommend gaining experience by observing lessons in a UK secondary school. This will help you reflect on teaching and understand the role of a professional educator.

We are offering our next School Experience Morning on Wednesday 4th February 2026.  Please note that places will be limited.  In due course please click on the link and search for 'Turing House School' to book. Please see below for some feedback we had about our previous School Experience days:

The day was a really valuable experience which gave me well-rounded insight into teaching. I felt welcomed and supported throughout the day - thank you so much!

It was great to speak to your staff and to see so many lessons today. It was fantastic to be able to work with the students a little also, they were very impressive, and I took a lot from that experience.

The experience helped me decide that teaching is the right path for me, and the Safeguarding discussion gave a real insight into the challenges students face.

I took a huge amount of positives away with me. Everything at Turing House - the staff, pupils and facilities - was impressive and I am really pleased I signed up for day. While teaching had been of some interest to me, the enthusiasm and passion of the staff who met us or who we observed in the classroom, was infectious. And, as a result, I'm going to take a much closer look at my options for the future.

100% of attendees strongly agreed that:

  1. The day was well-organised and ran smoothly

  2. They felt welcomed and supported throughout the day

  3. The sessions were informative and relevant

  4.  They gained a better understanding of what a teaching career involves

  5. They enjoyed observing lessons and engaging with students and staff
  6. The experience helped them decide whether teaching is the right path

  7. They would recommend the School Experience Day to others considering teaching

How to apply:

Applications for courses open in October 2025. To view and apply for available courses:

Support and advice:

Register with Get Into Teaching, the Department for Education’s free advice service. You'll be matched with a specialist adviser who can help you prepare your application and advise on funding, including bursaries, scholarships, and student finance.

You can also search for Train To Teach events near you via the Train To Teach website.

Training bursaries and scholarships:

We currently offer a non-salaried route for trainee teachers. This means that while trainees do not receive a salary during their training, there may be funding available in the form of bursaries or scholarships, depending on the subject you wish to teach.

The Department for Education provides tax-free bursaries and scholarships for certain subjects - particularly those where there is a high demand for teachers. Unfortunately, not all subjects are eligible for this funding, and salaried routes are not covered by bursaries or scholarships.

You can find out all of the information which you need here.

If you’re a non-UK applicant, refer to:

For complete guidance on eligibility and funding, see the official Initial Teacher Training (ITT) bursary: funding manual.
