Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a genuine job, so an apprentice will be employed from day one. They combine practical training in a job with study. An apprentice will:

• work alongside experienced staff;
• gain job-specific skills;
• earn a wage and get holiday pay;
• be given time for study related to their role (the equivalent of one day a week).

All apprenticeships included elements of on-the-job and off-the-job training, leading to industry recognised standards of qualifications. There are different levels of apprenticeships available:

• Level 2 – Intermediate – Equivalent to 5 GCSE passes 9 – 4
• Level 3 – Advanced – Equivalent to 2 A level passes/Level 3 Diploma
• Levels  4,5,6,7 – Higher – Equivalent to Foundation degree and above
• Level 6 & 7 – Degree – Equivalent to Batchelor’s or masters degree
