Music Overview
Curriculum

Term 1: Set Works - Toto: Africa and J.S. Bach: Badinerie

Students will carry out set work analysis of both pieces of music within the contexts of their own areas of study. They will apply their knowledge of the musical elements to carry out score analysis and create a whole class performance of both pieces.

Listening and Appraising Mock Exams. Whole Class performances.

Develop the individual:
Students will deploy analytical skills to give detailed descriptions of the music they see and hear. They will also enhance listening, communication, teamwork and other extrinsic skills through whole class performance.

Create a supportive community:
Working with others and enhancing teamwork, communication, critical thinking and analytical skills.

Term 2: Solo and Ensemble Performance

Students will work independently and as groups to rehearse and perform their pieces for their Solo and Ensemble Performance coursework. They will take part in regular performance seminars and deliver their performances in a whole GCSE Music concert.

Performance in GCSE Concert which will be recorded and assessed against exam board criteria.

Term 3: Listening & Appraising Exam

Students will embed the knowledge they've learnt in Year 10 to developing their approaches to the listening and appraising exam. They will enhance their key vocabulary understanding within the contexts of each area of study.

Term 4: Composition 2 - Composing to a Brief

Students will compose their second composition having chosen their preferred brief set by the exam board.

Compositions will be assessed against the criteria as detailed in the exam board specification.

Students will prepare for the final written paper.
