KS4 Curriculum Guide - Year 11 Art
Term 1Pop Art - personal response 
Students will continue work under the umbrella title Pop Art. Students will independently explore artists to inspire their ideas leading to a final outcome. This will be a personal response to the theme. Their final piece will be produced in a 10 hour mock examination under examination conditions.
Assessment: Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2Mock Examination 
Students have ten hours to complete their final piece in exam conditions and all coursework is to be handed in.
Assessment: Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 3Question Paper Issued and Preparatory Period 
Students are required to elicit a personal response from one starting point or project brief within the paper for which they have been entered. They are expected to develop their own work informed by their preparatory studies, evidencing coverage of all four assessment objectives.
Assessment: Students will be assessed on their work as a portfolio against the four assessment objectives. The work is then moderated in house and by an external moderator for AQAKey Words and Terms
 
Term 4Preparatory period 
There is unlimited preparation time followed by a ten hour period of sustained focused study in which students are expected to develop their own unaided work informed by their preparatory studies. During the preparatory period, teachers may discuss starting points with candidates and give them general guidance on the choice of materials, how to carry out preparatory studies or how to begin research.
Assessment: Students will be assessed on their work as a portfolio against the four assessment objectives. The work is then moderated in house and by an external moderator for AQAKey Words and Terms
 
Term 5Preparation and Practical Exam 
The ten hour exam is likely to take place over two consecutive days. Work completed during this period must be the student’s own unaided work.
