GCSE Drama starts with a devising project, where pupils will form a theatre company and produce a piece of devised theatre to be performed to a younger audience. During the project pupils will learn key skills in devising which will be used in their GCSE Component 1 unit later in the year. They will write an essay detailing the devising process.
Assessment: Pupils will be assessed midway through the unit on key words and practically on their individual performance.
At the end of the unit, pupils will be assessed against GCSE criteria on their final individual performance and essay.
In double lessons, pupils will practically explore our core text: DNA by Dennis Kelly. In single lessons, pupils will learn to answer exam questions on the play. Throughout the unit we will look at: performance skills, vocal skills, sound, lighting, costume and set design. We will also visit the theatre in preparation for the live theatre section of the GCSE exam.
Assessment: Midway through the unit, pupils will be assessed against the GCSE criteria with a performance exam.
