Art Overview
Curriculum

Year 12 - Autumn 1: Year 12 - Human Boundaries Introduction

Students will work under the broad theme of Human Boundaries and will get some freedom on subject matter, however lessons at the start of the course will be teacher led workshops, trying out a broad range of media and learning new drawing techniques to push their skills further. We will explore artists such as Jenny Saville, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Tracey Emin.

Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes.

Year 12 - Autumn 2: Year 12 - Human Boundaries continued

Students will start to work more independently, choosing their own artists to inspire their work, and choosing which area of Human Boundaries they wish to explore further. Students will be working in a sketchbook, but will also be generating larger scale pieces outside the book. During this term, students will work independently to create an outcome showcasing the best materials, techniques, imagery and concepts explored so far in the course.

Students will be assessed holistically, taking into account the work they have done over the entire term. They will be assessed on their development of ideas, written research of artists/themes, experimentation of materials, use of materials and final outcomes. Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

3: Human Boundaries Final Piece

Students will bring their knowledge of material experimentation with a wide range of materials to move toward a final piece for the Human Boundaries project. During this term, students will work independently to create an outcome showcasing the best materials, techniques, imagery and concepts explored so far in the course. This final piece is designed to show off all skills previously learnt, linking to a wide range of media, creative styles and influences - explaining their journey throughout the project through annotations and design decisions.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.

4: Mock Exam - Initial Ideas

Through the choice of themes, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of area and influences and make a personal decision about which are of study they would like to make artwork about. Students are encouraged to explore ideas and concepts of interest to them.

They will discuss and share ideas; thus gaining a greater understanding of themselves as well as the people and the world around them.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.

5: Mock Exam - Developing Ideas

Through the choice of themes, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of areas and make a personal decision about which are of study they would like to make artwork about. Students are encouraged to explore ideas and concepts of interest to them.

They will discuss and share ideas; thus gaining a greater understanding of themselves as well as the people and the world around them.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

6: Mock Exam - Creating a Final Piece

Through the choice of themes, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of areas and make a personal decision about which are of study they would like to make artwork about. Students are encouraged to explore ideas and concepts of interest to them.

They will discuss and share ideas; thus gaining a greater understanding of themselves as well as the people and the world around them.

During this term, they will design and create an outcome. This will be created in exam conditions for a duration of 15 hours.

Students will receive regular feedback through verbal discussion, peer assessment and target setting within lessons.

Written feedback will also be provided by peers and teaching staff where appropriate to support progress and reporting.

Work will be assessed against the 4 AQA assessment objectives resulting in a grade from A*-E.
